SilentJoinLeave

State UnreleasedVersion 1.0.0Platform Paper 26.2Java 25Config None

SilentJoinLeave removes the vanilla join and quit messages on a backend server. On a proxy network, where the proxy already announces players joining and leaving, that means each player sees one message instead of two — and switching between backends no longer prints "joined the game" and "left the game" on every server along the way.

Overview

  • No configuration. There is no config file to edit and nothing to reload.
  • No commands and no permissions. It applies to every player on the server it is installed on.
  • No dependencies. A single class, listening to two events.

Requirements

  • Paper 26.2 (the plugin declares api-version: '26.2')
  • Java 25
  • A proxy or proxy plugin that sends its own join and leave messages — otherwise nobody will see any

Installation

  1. Put the silentjoinleave-1.0.0.jar in the plugins/ folder of every backend whose messages you want silenced.
  2. Restart the server. There is nothing else to do.

Do not install it on a standalone server that has no proxy announcing joins: it will silence the only join messages there are.

How It Works

The plugin listens to PlayerJoinEvent and PlayerQuitEvent and clears the message on both. It runs at HIGHEST priority, so it wins over other plugins that set a custom join or quit message at a lower priority.

EventEffect
Player joins the backendNo "joined the game" message is broadcast on that server
Player leaves the backendNo "left the game" message is broadcast on that server

FAQ

Q: Another plugin's join message still shows

A: That plugin is either sending its own chat message instead of setting the join message, or it sets the message at MONITOR priority, which runs after HIGHEST. Turn the join message off in that plugin.

Q: Can I silence only some players, or only joins?

A: Not in this build. It is all players, joins and quits. Say so when you request it if you need either.

Q: Does it hide death or advancement messages?

A: No. Only the join and quit messages are touched.
